The Sensa HDM48000 is a complete, high-end CNC-control system especially for High Speed Cutting, intended for light to medium (up to 4 kilowatt spindle power) CNC milling machines, with exceptional acceleration, speed and precision. Real time uninterrupted behaviour of the Sensa HDM48000 is guaranteed by a high-speed USB2.0 interface and advanced driver software in conjunction with the Sensa2000 software package.

  • The simplicity and reliability of the USB2.0 standard is ideal for PC based CNC in industrial environments. The galvanic isolation between USB and power electronics that is build inside our USB-controller eliminates all grounding problems and interference risks.
  • 24 VDC compatible I/O's (16 In/6 Out); 2 analogue outputs (6..10VDC) for spindle speed control.
  • The control is fully 3D, with round-off between the (3D) G01 linear instructions.
  • Sensa's HDM48000 is a low cost high speed milling CNC control and is popular among OEM makers of custom machines such as sign milling and other milling machines. Rapid Prototyping is also a popular application for Sensa's HDM48000.
  • The HDM48000 comes complete with Windows 2000...Windows (Embedded) 8 software. The software accepts ISO codes (G codes) from almost any CAM package.

Specifications

There are two technological breakthroughs in this control:

1. The Sensa two-phase 120Volt/10Ampere four-quadrant current amplifier. This current amplifier converts a stepper motor into a high speed, high torque motor with outstanding positioning accuracy. The Sensa current amplifier also has high efficiency, despite its very high (60KHz) chopper frequency. A decelerating stepper motor will typically direct current back to the power supply.

Motor torque vs. speed linearly de-rates from 100% @ zero rpm to 80% @ 3000 rpm and 0% only at 14000 rpm.

2. A second strength is the very high speed interface between the Windows software and power electronics. This results in a 48 kHz update of motor-position data from software to power electronics. Microstepping is not an adequate term to describe this way of stepper motor control since at 48KHz this resolution is practically continuous. Theoretical positioning accuracies exceed 0.1 of a micrometer. Practical positioning accuracies are 1 micrometer static to 0.01 mm at a speed of 12 meters/minute.

To give you some impression of the Sensa HDM48000 performance: With a 800 x 1600 x 175 millimeter (X, Y and Z resp.) portal-construction High Speed Cutting milling machine, feed rates go up to 12 meter/minute (rapid traverse: 15 meters/min). Precision is usually better then 0.01 millimeter under conditions as contouring with high acceleration (0.3G) and speed (8 meter/minute) and milling in aluminium, 4 mm tool, 60000 rpm (1.6 KWatt), 4 mm depth.

Other applications for our control are Rapid Prototyping milling machines. Succesfull implementations has been realized in combination with Mastercam and Delft Spline Systems' DeskProto software.
